Reviews
The food here was fantastic- think Korean American brunch and bites. I had the pork belly breakfast sandwich (which is only available on week days) and a slice of the fruity pebble french toast. Everything tasted amazing and the service was good. The quality of the coffee was great- I would go here just to grab a latte!
Overall it was a little on the spendier side, about $30 per person, but definitely worth it.
Had a lovely brunch experience! Wasn't too busy at 2pm on a Saturday. Loved my special French toast and also got a fried chicken sandwich. I've also gotten mid week lunch take out and it was great. Lots of food and drink options with many fun twists.
I was super excited to try Watson's Counter but will never return. Whilst the food and coffee were indeed delicious, the service was horrible. Dining with a friend on Sunday morning, even with a reservation, we were told, in exact words, to leave the table we were at, after barely finishing the last bite of food and paying the tab because, "they needed the table for other people." While I understand restaurants are busy, we had only been seated for under 40 minutes (with a reservation), barely able to savor the meal we had or catch up with each other. Also, we were told to vacate the table not once, but twice within 5 minutes by 2 different people, barely time in between each request to drink our cups of water and put on our coats for the rainy Seattle weather. If you only want to dine (very) quickly and then leave, then this place is great. But if you want to have a nice time, enjoy the food and company of whomever you're dining with, still able to sit at the table you were eating at and not evicted to the waiting area stools, I would suggest a different place.
Watson's Counter is a restaurant a few blocks off the main strip of Ballard. The entrance is on the side instead of the front, and parking out here can be hit or miss. Inside they have a bar and about a dozen tables. The menu is a good size, but prices are extremely high for the portion sizes they serve. Loco moco was good, but the chicken sandwich was not as flavorful as I expected it to be, although the fries were pretty good. The service is OK, a little aggressive though with way too many visits to the table and questions. Overall I don't think it's worth the price.
Chicken sandwich was s tier. Great mix of acidity from fermented daikon and the sweet umami of gochujang. Chicken was very crispy. Coffee was also great.
Great little brunch spot nestled in Ballard.
We had the KBBQ pork plate, poutine, and chicken and waffles.
The honey butter was my favorite on the chicken. The sweet and savory crunch of the chicken skin paired with the waffle was satisfying.
The kbbq pork plate was very hefty and delicious. It made me feel healthy eating it but by the end I was full.
My only comment is that the food is on the pricier side and that I wish this place was bigger so that we could be seated sooner.
Great Korean fusion place and in the end, the wait for the food was well worth it.
I ordered to-go. I got the loco moco and the gochujang wings and waffles. Taste wise everything was pretty good.
The reason for the 4* is mainly because of portions and cost. These two items cost over $50 together and the portions were not close to what I think $50 should get you.
If you're willing to spend some extra money it still all tasted pretty good.
Edit: Have continued to grab coffee here during the week (mobile order now available!) and every time has been perfect. Staff is always friendly and the coffee is easily the best in town. Updated review from 4 to 5 stars!
Have been wanting to try this place since it opened and glad we finally got the chance!
Overall a rating somewhere between a 3.5 and 4. The food itself was very very good, but definitely some constructive feedback:
- I 100% understand not allowing modifications, but there should be more side options. If you're ordering the French Toast as the entree (which I did, and highly recommend), your side options are rice and... toast. It would have been nice to have some eggs to diversify the plate a little.
- Weird comment, but the plates are on the small side. The presentation is nice, but the food is almost overflowing and made it a little difficult to eat.
- Drinks were incredible, highly recommend the Orangey Mocha. But they didn't come out very hot (think European warm). That would normally be fine, but when the food takes 30-40min to come out, the drinks are definitely ice cold by then.
- The staff was nice, but we found them somewhat pushy. The place was about 50% full, but we still felt a little rushed while ordering and paying the bill.
Total for 2 people after tax and tip (mandatory 18% others have mentioned) was $74. Definitely on the higher end for brunch, but the quality matches the price.
Overall, minor complaints for an otherwise great meal. We are excited it's so close by and plan to return for lunch on a weekday when more of the menu is available!
